The Myth Of Super Woman

Women have come along way over the decades. From being unable to vote, to the new Super Hero of the Universe.

The perfect woman can now be independent from he man, yet is adored by him to the point of worshipping a Goddess! She is highflying, Career minded, hard hitting woman. Knocking men out of her way like wobbly bowling balls, as she flies up her chosen career ladder.

She has many friends, of both sexes. With whom she enjoys a superb social life. Partying until dawn, not forgetting to consume unearthly amounts of water to counteract the many glasses of cosmopolitans she lives on. Surviving on the bare minimum sleep , she power walks to the office.

After establishing her mighty Career she 'chooses' to have one child. Planned conceived and born within one year if possible. Causing the least amount of ripples to her perfectly planned life. The pregnancy is wondrous, working until two weeks before the baby is due. Starts maternity leave in a flurry of flowers and soft toys. An idyllic birth follows. Minimum drugs, minimum intervention. Of course, she feeds the child herself. Its the ultimate in immune building exorcises.

Superwoman stays with said child for at least two months, to ensure correct bonding. Hurrying back to the office with super human strength. Slipping back into her previous position as easily a s she slips into her fluffy mules each night. Her dear, retired mother takes care of the baby while she works, reduced hours of course. She gets home each night just in time to play with, bathe and put the little one to bed. Calmly taking care of the rest of the house while her 'partner' works late.

She regularly has close friends for dinner, a superb cook. Even acquaintances leave laden down with parcels of leftovers. Weekends spent shopping for stilettos and eveningwear. At least two holidays per year The Alps and Mauritius are favourites.

Her life is a dream, perfect in every way. She is never ill. Never questions. Never worries. Never feels stress or pain. Accepts her wonderful life with fabulously toned arms.

 Who is she?

Media invented this woman. She is who we are all to 'aspire' too. The subliminal messages pumped at young girls create time bombs of guiltridden, stressed, young women. Struggling to reach the dizzy highs of 'perfection'.

Women can achieve as much as men. Can have family, carers, social status. The myth of superwoman is just that. A myth. Can we really have it all? With out guilt, stress, the worry, the inadequate feelings. Multitasking, we girls are great at it. But something has to give.

We are cultivating a generation of stressed out, depressed on the verge of a nervous breakdown women. Standing at the school gates. Worn, pale lined faces. Tugging at a squawking child home to eat takeaways because she is too depressed to cook.
